Oscar Parties with a Purpose and... Call2Action Named one of 25 Women-Run Tech Startups to Watch!
An Oscar Party with Purpose
We have had the good fortune to work with TWO Oscar nominees for this year's best documentary: Sun Come Up and Gasland.
Sun Come Up follows the evacuation and relocation of some of the world's first environmental refugees --the Carteret Islanders, a peaceful community living on a remote island chain in the South Pacific Ocean. Tragically, rising sea levels as a result of global climate change have disproportionately affected small island communities like these. We must not let these communities bear the brunt of this problem alone!
Last week, we launched a Sun Come Up Spark campaign to help finance the construction of new homes for the Carteret Islanders. And what better opportunity than the Academy Awards? All we need is for 50 Oscar parties to raise $400 each, and we will be able to finance the entire project.
To join the movement and become a House Raiser Host, contact Stephanie Bleyer today firstname.lastname@example.org, and be sure to visit http://events.workingfilms.org/suncomeup/signup. You will get a copy of the film to screen on Oscar night or another night.
Even if you can't host your own fundraising Oscar party, there is no reason not to share the Spark with everyone. Just click on the link below to be redirected to our Spark on the Sun Come Up's site. Once there, click "share" to see how you can help ignite change on Facebook, Twitter, blogs and email. The faster it spreads, the bigger the impact, and the closer the Carteret Islanders come to having homes.

Also, you may recall our shout out to Gasland last month and our Spark for them last year:
Documentary Screening: I Am Hosting an Oscar Party
In the spirit of our documentary screening series, I have decided to host Call2Action's own official Sun Come Up House Raising party in my home. Since the Oscars are long as it is, we will only show the Sun Come Up trailer on Sunday and we will save the full documentary screening for a night when the filmmakers can join us.
While it is my dream home, space is limited, so if you are in the NYC area and willing to share $40 and one yummy drink or dish, RSVP to me ASAP.
Over the past few weeks, Call2Action has been the fortunate recipient of some very exciting press. First, just yesterday, Fast Company's Allyson Kapin named us one of the "25 Women-Run Startups to Watch." And, if that weren't awesome enough, AdAge's Judy Shapiro referred to us as an example of a top woman-owned tech start-up, in her article, "Where Are the Women in Tech. You Ask?"
